The Oregon Insurance Division warned consumers last week about an offer for "affordable health care" that is being sent to fax machines throughout Oregon. “As the price of health insurance continues to rise, consumers are looking for ways to reduce costs,” said Teresa Miller, Insurance Division administrator. “But consumers should be very careful about unsolicited offers for low-cost health care. Many of these offers are illegitimate, or they may not offer a level of coverage that the consumer would expect.” As always, the best way to secure legitimate health care coverage to meet your needs is to work with a licensed professional such as ISU Insurance Services-The Stratton Agency.

The worst time to create a home inventory is after something has happened to your house, but unfortunately, that is when many people first think of doing it. To make the process easier, the Insurance Information Institute has created "Know Your Stuff," online software for creating and storing your home’s inventory record. It’s free and easy to use, plus the information is stored on their servers for additional safekeeping. Click on the link below to begin using it (registration required).

The Center for Retirement Research at Boston College has developed the National Retirement Risk Index (NRRI) to measure the percentage of households that are at risk for being able to maintain their standard of living in retirement. According to results published in March of this year, that number stands at 44%, excluding projected health care costs. When you factor in those costs, the percentage rises to 61%.
